FUSKY... BEHIND THE SCENES

It is an April evening in 2024. It is still cold in Val di Fiemme, so Roberto goes down to the family cave to light the fire a few minutes before the meeting. A few days before, he went running with Andrea. Talking about races, mountains, personal challenges and goals, Andrea felt that the moment was right to share a dream he has kept to himself until then. He has competed in many races and considers himself lucky to be able to train in the mountains of Val di Fiemme. A land that, with its technically diverse trails and spectacular landscapes, is not only a precious playground but has also become a real school of personal growth: a place that allows him to put himself to the test, to learn, to meditate, to regenerate, to get amazed, a place where you travel not only with your legs but also with your heart. This is how the idea of an ultra skyrunning race among these peaks was born: from a strong desire to share with others all this beauty and sense of adventure, both in terms of landscape and, above all, inner discovery. So, thanks to a very informal word of mouth, the family cave hosts this idea for the first of countless time. Andrea, Roberto, Enrico, Marco, and Alice: five different voices, one shared passion. On that spring evening, the organizing committee of the Fiemme Ultra Sky meets for the first time.

KEYWORD: ENTHUSIASM
“You're crazy,” we've been told more than once. Instead of crazy, we consider ourselves dreamers, enthusiasts, and passionate. This is how our mountains make us feel: many readers will understand what we mean. After that first meeting, others follow more or less regularly. Although the project sparks everyone's enthusiasm from the outset, without saying it openly, we find ourselves in a sort of evaluation phase, both on a personal level and as a group. There are many aspects to consider before embarking on this journey, for it requires natural respect but at the same time stimulates our minds and gives us that feeling of excitement in our stomachs. Ideas emerge with each new week, shaping into concrete solutions, as driven by an invisible force that puts all the pieces in the right place. After a couple of months, this force translates into conviction: yes, we want to try.
We don't have all the answers, but our confidence in creating something positive for mountain enthusiasts and for our valley overcomes every possible obstacle. This is how the board of ATPower Team, the association promoting FUSKY, is officially formed. The name of the event comes about almost naturally, something more of a joke than an option – the logo, on the other hand, encounters a few obstacles, but in the end it doesn’t need explanations. We then begin to involve municipalities, institutions, potential sponsors, security personnel, and accommodation facilities. The tracks are repeatedly tested on our training laps; we start to collect offers from all service providers, so many to let us be thankful for living in a digitalized world.
At the same time, we are also working hard to present the project to the public in the best possible way: website, photoshootings, communication plans. By the end of November, we are ready to officially present the project. It is no surprise that we chose the Palazzo della Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme to host the first press conference: a historic symbol of the unity spirit that is typical of our valley. The media response? Beyond our hopes, so much that we initially find ourselves a little daunted by the load of expectations it generates. However, there are still many aspects to take care of. So, heads down and hearts in our hands, we fly into February, when registrations open. We don't really know what to expect: there are so many mountain running events, and a new race might not find its place in a very busy calendar. To our great surprise, over 140 people register for the race in the first two weeks. In the end, there will be over 500 competitors at the start, with three out of four races sold out: an incredible result for us. During spring, we hold meetings with local associations to screen the interest in participating with groups of volunteers. Once again, we are surprised by the response of these community: at the end of March, of the estimated 300 volunteers needed, over 100 confirm their support. The enthusiasm is contagious, and the “team” takes shape rapidly in the following months.

THE FINAL SPRINT
The last few months fly by in the blink of an eye, between the hectic pace of preparations, logistical plans, meetings that always end up lasting “until the next day,” and the fatigue of busy days filled with hard work. But every moment has a kind of magic that never fades: the energy that comes from running together, united by the same passion, and from feeling embraced by the sincere support of our families, always ready to help us.
The weekend of October 4-5 finally arrives. With good and bad weather. With a valley that is enthusiastic, curious, proud to host and experience a new sporting event in a spirit of sharing. FUSKY is not just a race: it is a collective test, a celebration of belonging, of our land.
Our goal was to create something from the territory for the territory, a genuine event capable of uniting people. This would have been the greatest success for us. Today, with proud hearts and eyes full of gratitude, we can say that we achieved our goal. More than numbers or visibility, we remember the faces, hands, and smiles of those who believed in the project.
FUSKY is a celebration of our mountains and the values they teach us: respect, health, community, friendship, greatness. For them—and thanks to them—an entire valley gathered proud, hard-working, and confident. And we can only bow our heads and say thank you.
