Fiemme Ultra Sky, ahead of its debut scheduled for the first weekend of October (Saturday 4 and Sunday 5), arrived in Milan on 3 September to present its spectacular trails designed in front of the Latemar and Lagorai mountains to the media. At the table were the ATPOWER Team management, Benedetto Sironi from Outdoor Magazine (media partner of the event) and the spokespersons for the two technical sponsors of the event: Vittorio Barasso (Brand & Communication Manager at La Sportiva) and Giovanni Setti (Mico Sport). Fulvio Vanzo, Councillor for Sport in Cavalese, sent his greetings via video message.

This occasion was the perfect opportunity to make a much-anticipated announcement: a new registration window will soon open, answering the overwhelming demand received in recent weeks. “Our shorter races are already sold out, while only a handful of bibs remain for the longer distances,” said Alice Varesco, FUSKY’s head of communications. “We intentionally kept the numbers limited to ensure every participant receives the best possible service. But given the incredible number of requests, we will soon open a short registration window to allow more runners to take part in this very first edition."

THE STORY. "This event was born from my passion for skyrunning and my desire to share this discipline,” explained Andrea Tomé, president of the organizing committee. “My journey led me to become first an instructor, then a coach, and eventually to create an event that would showcase skyrunning against the extraordinary backdrop of Val di Fiemme. I shared the idea with friends, who gave me the support needed to make it real.Of course, tackling races of this kind requires preparation and awareness – there’s no room for improvisation. That’s why we created the Fiemme Mountain Academy, with the goal of training athletes and passing on the skills needed to practice skyrunning safely. This is our mission: to promote skyrunning in Val di Fiemme and across Trentino. I want to warmly thank the volunteers, whose enthusiasm for this new challenge means so much to us. Their commitment is a clear and encouraging sign. Public institutions and sponsors have also believed in the project from the start. This cohesive triad – volunteers, local community, and sponsors – is the strength that will make our event special from the very first edition."

THE TRACK. While the longest race of FUSKY will take runners across 11 summits, each course has unique features that make it distinctive and highly appealing. All distances are drawn from one main route:

30 km – Fiemme SkyRace: The shortest route winds through stunning forests above Tesero, topping out at Monte Cornon (2,189m) and Dos dei Branchi (2,274m). 55 km – Fiemme SkyMarathon: This race will coast through a number of high-altitude meadows with panoramic views as the runners reach Pizzancae (2,162m), Pelenzana (2,210m), and Monte Agnello (2,358m). After passing Monte Cornon and Dos dei Branchi, participants will head toward the Latemar range for Cima Valbona (2,691m).

80 km – Fiemme UltraSky: With technical, rocky trails and jaw-dropping landscapes, this route takes on nine peaks, including all of the above plus Pala di Santa (2,448m), Corno Bianco (2,313m), and Corno Nero (2,439m), climbing a total of 5,200 metres. These runners will also be treated to a spectacular sunset when the Dolomites turn pink due to the iconic enrosadira phenomenon.

120 km – Fiemme SkyExtreme: The queen of races. Covering 120km with 7,700 metres of elevation gain, this race challenges ultra skyrunners with rugged, wild terrain in the Lagorai mountains. It includes all 11 peaks, adding Paion del Cermis (2,229m) and Cimon del To della Trappola (2,401m) to the list. Runners will also pass by the stunning alpine lakes of Bombasel and Lagorai—true paradises on earth.

THE TERRITORY. The mission of Fiemme Ultra Sky is to harness the power of sport to promote the region and safeguard its trail heritage. The courses will lead through magical forests, traditional pastures, Dolomite rock glowing at sunset, and the wild nature of the Lagorai Range – the true jewel of Val di Fiemme. This vision also inspired the finisher medals, the result of a collaboration between Varesco Legno and Enaip Trentino (Tesero’s School of Wood).“As a preview of this first edition, we are proud to present a truly special feature,” said Enrico Varesco, Head of Sponsors of the organizing committee. “Our valley is renowned for its forests and timber quality. For centuries, our community has thrived around forestry and woodcraft. This is why the Vaia storm of October 2018, which devastated over 40,000 hectares and more than 20 million trees across the Alps, was such a catastrophe. And today, another enemy – the spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus) – continues to destroy weakened red spruces in our valley. This tiny insect burrows under the bark, cutting off the tree’s sap channels and leaving it to die standing. Given our deep connection to the land and its resources, it felt only natural to use local wood for our medals. We wanted every athlete to bring home not just a symbol of achievement, but a piece of Val di Fiemme itself.”

THE SPONSORS. Like any competition, FUSKY is a bet. Every year, new events spring up on the national scene, but some manage to stand out, hinting at great potential. It is no coincidence that two major technical brands such as La Sportiva and Mico Sport have decided to invest in the sporting dreams of the young people at ATPOWER.
